Rhodes falls to BSC, 11-7

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Rhodes men's lacrosse team fell in the opening round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament to Birmingham Southern College on Saturday, 11-7.
 
The Lynx finish their 2015 campaign with an 8-7 mark on the year while the Panthers improve to 9-6 in on the year.
 
BSC came out of the gate and scored three back-to-back goals to get things started, taking a 3-0 advantage into the first period break.
 
Ryan Fennelly broke the Rhodes scoring silence, netting the first Lynx goal just 22 seconds into the second period. The Panthers netted their fourth goal at the 13:09 mark. Rhodes caught some momentum and fired off three straight goals from the sticks of Jason Lee, Andrew Salamunovich and Fennelly for the 4-4 tie. The Rhodes defense held strong, as they took the 4-4 score into the half.
 
Out of the break, BSC went to work, netting six third quarter goals for the 10-4 lead. Rhodes' Justin Powers worked in a shot to close the third quarter and pull the Lynx within five at 10-5.
 
Rhodes held the Panthers to just one goal in the fourth period, and netted two of their own from the sticks of Powers and Matt Vavrek, but the rally wasn't enough, as they Lynx fell 11-7.
 
The Lynx were outshot by their counterparts by a margin of 42-27, and just missed in the face-offs category, 12-9.
 
Thomas Matthews played all 60 minutes in goal for the Lynx, grabbing 15 saves in the outing.
 
John Wancowicz was named to the 2015 SAA Men's Lacrosse All-Tournament Team.

The Lynx finish their 2015 campaign with the most wins in a season in program history at eight.
