Lynx continue historic run, downing Meredith 16-12.

LANCASTER, Pa. – In the first round of the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament, the Rhodes women's lacrosse team bypassed Meredith College 16-12, continuing their historic first run in the tournament.
 
The Lynx boast a record of 15-1, while the Avenging Angles finish the 2015 season with a record of 12-7.
 
The high scoring first-half saw 18 goals from both teams. Head coach Brice Queener's squad got things going, when Oliva Holmes and Kendall Cunningham found the back of the net for the early 2-0 lead with 28:29 to play. Meredith worked in a pair of goals in the next minute, to even things out at 2-2.
 
Rhodes again worked to move ahead, and with a pair of scores from Ashley Dill, and goals from Cunningham and McKenna Davis, the Lynx posted a 6-2 advantage with 19:03 to play. Again, the Lynx saw the Angles rattle off two more goals, but a pair of scores for the Lynx, from Cunningham and Maggie Rippeto pushed Rhodes out ahead 8-4 at the 12:26 mark.
 
The high scoring affair continued, with the Lynx trading goals with Meredith, when Holmes connected on a Rippeto set up for the 9-5 lead at the 10:13 mark. Meredith closed the half with three scores, but not without a score from Rippeto to make the halftime count, 10-8.
 
In the second half, Cunningham got off to a hot start, netting a pair of goals to push the Lynx out to a 12-8 lead. Meredith, with the quick offense, netted a pair of scores to pull within two at the 24:53 mark.
 
Lindsay Gess netted her first score of the contest with 18:48 to play, giving the Lynx a 13-8 lead. Meredith found the back of the cage, but Cunningham, Rippeto and Morgan Fuller all had something to say, each scoring a goal for the 16-11 lead at 10:42 on the clock.  Meredith snuck in a final goal, as the Lynx held on for the 16-12 win.
 
In a closely matched game, the Lynx edged their counterparts in shots, at 24-21. Meredith picked up 17 draw controls to the Lynx 13, while Rhodes scooped up more ground balls by a count of 14-12.
 
Sarah Daniels was key in the goal for the Lynx, where she grabbed seven saves in the contest.
 
Rhodes advances to face Franklin and Marshall College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, May 10 at 1 p.m.
