Bucs Surge Past Central State in Home Opener

MEMPHIS - Less than 48 hours after dropping a 70-61 decision, to the same team, the Christian Brothers University men's basketball team never trailed in a 77-61 victory over Central State (Ohio), on Sunday at Canale Arena. The contest marked the first victory at CBU for new head coach John T. Reilly

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Bucs opened the game on an 11-2 run, and did not allow CSU to reach double figures until it hit a three pointer at the 11:43 mark.
  • CBU led by as many as 24 points (37-13), and took a 44-25 lead into halftime.
  • The Bucs shot 19-of-35 (55 percent) in the first half, and held the visitors to just 8-for-27 (29 percent)
  • CBU kept its momentum throughout most of the second half, and led by as many as 26 (66-40) with 8:18 left. 
  • Central State scored 14 of the final 22 points to get to the games final margin.
KEY STATS | NOTEABLES:
  • The Bucs outrebounded Central State 46-30, including a 16-8 edge on the offensive glass. CBU also finished with 16 second chance points. 
  • CBU took advantage of the painted area, outscoring the visitors 46-24.
  • The Bucs also scored 22 points off 13 turnovers.
  • Nick Deifel finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds, earning his first career double-double. His 12 boards are a career-high.
  • Daryl Lewis paced the Bucs, scoring 17 points to go along with seven rebounds. 
  • Jacob Lyons narrowly missed a double-double, as he finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. 
  • Brad Miller added seven points, five rebounds and five assists. He did not have a turnover in 31 minutes. 
UP NEXT:
  • The Bucs are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Nov. 16 when they will travel to face No. 6 Lincoln Memorial. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
