Josh Heupel Appearing on 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

Former National Championship-winning Oklahoma quarterback and current head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers Josh Heupel has been selected to appear on the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot, as announced by the National Football Foundation on Monday.

Heupel’s appearance on the 2024 ballot is as a player at Oklahoma.

The native of Aberdeen, South Dakota began his college career at Weber State before eventually transferring to Snow College followed by the University of Oklahoma for the 1999 and 2000 seasons.

By the time he left Oklahoma, Heupel was a household name across the college football landscape as the National Champion. Heupel was a consensus First-Team All-American in 2000, the AP College Football Player of the Year in 2000, and the Quarterback of the Year in 2000. Additionally, Heupel won a trio of awards that year including the Walter Camp Award, the Archie Griffin Award, and the Chic Harley Award.

Heupel joins several all-time names on the 2024 ballot including two familiar standouts from the University of Tennessee.

In addition to Vols head coach Josh Heupel, former Tennessee wide receivers Willie Gault and Larry Seivers also made the 2024 ballot. Heupel, Seivers, and Gault were all on the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, as well.

The ballot also includes names such as Justin Blackmon, Dallas Clark, Tim Couch, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison, Ryan Leaf, Marshawn Lynch, Michael Oher, Michael Vick, and many more.

The historic Tennessee Football program has 26 inductees into the College Football Hall of Fame including Eric Berry, who joined the group as part of the most recent 2023 class. Tennessee’s 22 players and four coaches lead the SEC.

Following his playing days, Heupel eventually moved into the coaching world, which led him to be the head coach at Tennessee for the previous two seasons. Heupel has a total record of 18-8 at Tennessee (7-6 in 2021, 11-2 in 2022), which was preceded by a 28-8 record at UCF from 2018 to 2020. Josh Heupel is 46-16 as a head coach in the world of college football.
