Tennessee baseball will face Southern Miss in next weekend’s super regional. The Vols are back in the super regionals for the third straight season while Southern Miss advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

The location of the super regional is unclear since both Tennessee and Southern Miss were two-seeds in their respective regionals. The NCAA selection committee is announcing the location of the super regional as well as the game dates and times at 10 a.m. ET Tuesday.

“I think the case is the way the city has handled (hosting) in the past,” Tennessee coach Tony Vitello said of the Vols’ case to host. “Obviously, it has good size and has handled many events. Heck, the events you get to go to in that arena (Thompson-Boling Arena) itself. But then also what these guys have done on the field, competing in our league.”

Take a look at Tennessee’s case to host the super regional here.

Tennessee got back to the super regionals after sweeping through the Clemson Regional. The Vols bookended a thrilling extra innings win over Clemson Saturday night with dominant victories over the three-seed Charlotte.

The Vols are two wins away from returning to the College World Series for the first time since 2021. Tennessee is looking for its sixth ever College World Series appearance and the second of the Tony Vitello era.

Southern Miss is back in the super regionals for the second straight season after winning the Auburn Regional. The Golden Eagles went on an impressive run, winning four straight games after dropping their regional opener against Samford. But Southern Miss responded with wins over Auburn, Samford and Penn twice to advance.

Southern Miss enters the super regional 45-18 (22-8 Sun Belt) finishing second in the Sun Belt in the regular season before winning the Sun Belt tournament. The Golden Eagles are 2-5 against power five opponents this season.
