Former Tennessee State basketball coach and longtime administrator Valencia Jordan was named athletic director at Fisk Wednesday.

Jordan replaced Corrinne Tarver, who had served as AD since March. Tarver, who was hired as the Bulldogs gymnastics coach in 2022, had served in a dual role..

“Being an AD is a dream come true for me,” said Jordan, who played volleyball at Fisk from 1981-82. “Coming full circle to Fisk is an honor. So much rich tradition here. Now it is time to make some new history. There are some great people here. I look forward to getting to work and making Fisk a school athletes want to attend.”

Valencia Jordan was named Fish's new athletics director Wednesday.

Jordan worked in athletics at TSU in various roles from 1989-2021. She was the volleyball coach from 1992-94, assistant women’s basketball coach in 2000 and was promoted to head coach in 2001 when Teresa Phillips became an administrator and eventually athletics director.

Jordan remained on the bench until 2003 when she followed Phillips into administration at TSU. Jordan eventually became TSU's associate athletic director/senior woman administrator.

Last November, Jordan was named special programs coordinator at Metropolitan Davidson County Parks Department.
