For the 13th time this season, the ETSU baseball scored 10 or more runs in a game - but on Tuesday it was not enough to fend off Appalachian State in a shootout.

Despite erasing a seven-run deficit by tying things up in the eighth inning, the Bucs fell at the hands of a walk-off in the bottom of the ninth to lose 12-11.

Trailing 5-0 in the fourth, the Bucs scored three runs in the bottom half of that inning which App State countered with before the Bucs kept chipping away with one in the fifth, three in the sixth, three more in the seventh and then one more in the eighth to tie the score at 11-11. Both Blake Jacklin and Ryan McCarthy hit home runs in the game.

App State, however, was able to string three singles together against Landon Crumbley in the ninth to win Tuesday’s matchup, 12-11.

ETSU will return home to Thomas Stadium on Friday when it opens a three-game series against The Citadel. Friday’s series opener is set for a 5 p.m. first pitch in Johnson City.
