TranSouth Women's Basketball All-Conference Team: 2005-06

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The TranSouth Athletic Conference released the women's basketball all-conference team and postseason awards today. Freed-Hardeman took two of the four awards, with Kera Bergeron named Newcomer of the Year, and Dale Neal the Coach of the Year. Trevecca's Jackie Weaver took Player of the Year, while Josephine Owino of Union University was named the Freshman of the Year.

Weaver, a 6-foot-5 senior center from Aurora, Illinois, leads the Trojans with 17.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game. Weaver ranks first in the NAIA in double-doubles (20) and blocks per game (4.4). Weaver's 62.0% field goal % leads the TranSouth and ranks second in the NAIA. Weaver also ranks second in the NAIA in free throw percentage at 89.6%.

Bergeron, a 5-foot-8 senior from Nashville, came to the Lady Lions this year after spending her first three seasons at Austin Peay State University. She led the Lady Lions with a 39.2 three-point % and her 2.556 3-point field goals made per game led the TranSouth, despite her missing three games due to a knee injury.

Neal piloted the Lady Lions to their third consecutive TranSouth regular season championship, posting a 28-2 record (11-1 TranSouth). Freed has been in the top 5 in every poll, including a number two ranking for most of the season. Freed-Hardeman and Union remain the only two schools to have won TranSouth Conference regular season titles in women's basketball since the conference's inception in 1996.

Owino, a 6-foot-4 freshman from Mombasa, Kenya, led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring this year, averaging 12.3 points per game and is second in the TranSouth (third NAIA) in field goal % (61.0%), and is second in the TranSouth in blocks per game (1.76).
