Basketball season couldn’t have started any better for the Harrelson School Lady Hawks and Hawks Monday night in Puryear.

The Lady Hawks scored a 42-20 victory over Big Sandy, while the Hawks pulled out a 29-13 triumph.

Harrelson returns to action at 6 p.m. Thursday with a River Conference battle at Camden.

 

LADY HAWKS 42, LADY DEVILS 20

Harrelson almost shut out Big Sandy in both the first and second quarters by holding the Lady Devils to just one basket each period. Harrelson rolled up a 30-4 halftime edge.

Big Sandy outscored Harrelson 8-6 in both the third and fourth quarters, but that wasn’t enough of a comeback to keep the Lady Hawks from scoring the easy victory.

Averie O’Daniel topped Harrelson’s scoring list with 16 points, with Avery Cox chipping in 11. Meghann Cervantes added seven points, with both Savannah Nesbitt and Kassity Bechard scoring four points.

Big Sandy was led in scoring by Annalise Wade with eight points and Lydia Dykes with six.

Avery Mayberry hit for four points with Ashland Berry scoring two.

 

HAWKS 29, RED DEVILS 13

A tight first half left the game tied 7-7 at halftime.

Harrelson dominated the second half by posting identical 11-3 scoring edges in both the third and fourth periods to pull out the 29-13 victory.

The Hawks were led in scoring by Eli Bona with 12 points and Devin Valentine with 11. Tyson Hornbuckle chipped in six points for Harrelson.

Big Sandy got five points from Brandon Berry while Mikey Rushing sank a 3-point shot. Jaylen Christopher and Seth Green added two points each. Luke Wiseman connected on one free throw.
