Fairview Middle School is gearing up for the 2017 basketball season which bounces into action this Thursday.

Head Boys Coach Wil Hyche said, “Our teams are hungry to get their seasons underway!”

In his second year leading the Falcons, Hyche is optimistic about the 2017 season after watching the progress. “The summer program provided great opportunity for growth and development of players. Team chemistry really came together, and should help propel our teams into the 2017 campaign!”

Hyche said the progress in fundamental skills was the biggest and best thing to note from summer work.

Two players really made strides through their hard work over the summer, Carter Durham and Nathan Williams. They are both recovering from injury, but look to have a significant impact on team success. Nathan will miss the first 4-6 games. Carter will be ready to play in the opener.

Hyche noted, “With three sixth graders and three seventh graders playing varsity this season, we will be young, but eighth grade leadership from our captains have our expectations set high!” Returning leaders for the Falcons will be Nathan Williams and Thomas Lankford. Williams is also a team captain along with Carter Durham and Kennedy Pendergrass.

Last year’s JV team also went undefeated which has Hyche anxious to see how those skilled players will bring excitement and energy to varsity play.

Assisting Hyche in coaching will be junior varsity head coach Kevin Lyndsey and player development coach Michael Pendergrass.

Hyche said, “This young, talented team will play a fast-paced, high-pressure style that is entertaining and fun to watch.” The community is invited to come see the run-and-gun of the fighting Falcons this season. He also noted the conference home opener against Waverly, October 24 will be a game to watch.
