The Huntland High School Hornets lost to the Battle Ground Academy Wildcats 17-4 at Community Middle School Saturday in their last game for the Viking Classic.
The Wildcats scored the first 12 runs of the game as the Hornets were unable to mount a comeback against the sizable early deficit.
The Wildcats scored seven runs in the top of the first inning with five of them coming before the first out of the game was recorded. They tacked on another five runs in the top of the second to bring the deficit to double digits.
The Hornets got their first run in the bottom of the second when Gavin Morgan hit a solo home run.
With the bases loaded later in the frame, Troy Tate hit a two-out double to drive in three runs and make it a 12-4 game.
However, the Wildcats would score five more runs in the top of the fourth to pull back ahead by a 13-run margin.
The Hornets were held scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, and the game ended after four innings due to the time limit for the contest.
With the loss, the Hornets moved to 3-5 on the season.
They will next play Monday at Fayetteville City High School. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
