Three set records as Oakland wins county swim championships

Oakland Senior Rachel Massaro took second place in the Girls 200 IM at the 29th Doris Coady Rutherford County Invitational Saturday in Lebanon.

LEBANON -- Rutherford County's swimming depth was on display Saturday at the Doris Coady Rutherford County Invitational meet at Lebanon's Jimmy Floyd Community Center.

Three different girls set meet records as Oakland captured its sixth straight county meet championship.

Oakland's Hana Collins and Rachel Massaro and Siegel's Lexi Grisham set meet records. Collins' record came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.16, Grisham's came in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:26.14 and Massaro's came in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.90.

"It feels great," said Massaro, a senior. "We've been looking forward to with last year's meet getting canceled (due to icy weather).

Collins, a junior, earlier won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:06.41.

"I just swim until I get to the wall and then I look at the time and see," Collins said.

The Patriots' depth also showed through as Joey Clemmer, Seth Henson, Joseph Jordan and Sara Carmichael each won an individual event.

The Patriots also won five of six relays, with Riverdale winning the other.

Siegel's Madison McGill, Gayla Morgan and Grace Millican cheer on a teammate Saturday.

Oakland's teams racked up a combined 301 points. Central Magnet and Riverdale was second and third, respectively, with Riverdale taking the boys' runner-up title and Central winning the girls'.

Siegel had a pair of individual double winners, and both won in the same events. Grisham and Paul Kullmar both won in the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Grisham's times were 2:17.43 and 5:26.14, respectively. Kullmar's were 2:12.42 and 5.27.83.

La Vergne's Telly Coleman Jr. and Riverdale's Grace Hines also won multiple individual events.

Coleman was the winner in the 100 butterfly (56.89) and 100 freestyle (52.31). Hines captured the 50 freestyle (26.57) and the 100 freestyle (58.04).

Riverdale's Daniel Reisnner won the 50 freestyle (24.11).

The regional meet is Friday in Nashville with the state meet two weeks after that in Knoxville.

"We just need to train harder and see what we can do at region and state," Collins said.
