Oakland's Rachel Massaro excels at state swim meet

Oakland's girls swimming team had the most success of county squads during the Tennessee High School Swimming and Diving Championships, held in Knoxville last weekend.

The Lady Patriots scored 25 points as a team, good for 24th place overall. The two Oakland teams combined finished with 30 points, which was 21st overall.

Lady Patriot senior Rachel Massaro had a big meet. She placed in the top 10 in two individual events and helped Oakland relay teams in two other events.

Her best event was the 100-yard backstroke, where she placed seventh (27.76). She finished 10th in the 200 individual medley (28.10).

She was also part of Oakland's 200 medley relay team (22nd) and 400 free relay team (14th).

Siegel's Lexi Grisham was 13th in the girls 100 freestyle and 18th in the 200 freestyle while Riverdale's Gracie Hines had a big day, finishing 21st in the 50 freestyle, 33rd in the 100 freestyle and helping the Lady Warrior 200 free relay team (30th) and 400 free relay team (25th).

Oakland's Joey Clemmer placed 12th in the boys 100 breaststroke, 17th in the 200 individual medley while  helping the Patriot 400 free relay team finish 22nd and 200 medley relay team finish 28th.

Other girls who finished in the top 40 included Oakland's Hana Collins (100 butterfly, 27th) and Oakland's Sara Carmichael (500 free, 32nd; 100 breaststroke, 37th).

Girls relay teams that finished in the top 25 included Oakalnd's 200 medley (Massaro, Carmichael, Collins, Lexi Platt), Central Magnet's 400 free (Anna Waldecker, Kaira Sweetman, Marlee Bratsch, Elise Jones, 22nd) and Riverdale's 400 free (Bailey Lugo, Ashleigh Pucci, Hailey Simmons, Grace Hines, 25th).

Boys who finished in the top 40 included Siegel's Paul Kullman (200 individual medley, 37th) and Oakland's Jackson Diamond (100 backstroke, 40th).

Boys relay teams that finished in the top 25 included Smyrna's 400 free (Cameron Robertson, Beau Bullock, Grant Holland, John Anderson, 21st) and Oakland's 400 free (Clemmer, Diamond, Brandon Young, Joseph Jordan, 22nd).
