County champs headline all-area swimming teams

County champions and state medalists headline The Daily News Journal's 2016-17 all-area swimming teams.

The finalists for all-area girls swimmer of the year are Siegel's Lexi Grisham, Riverdale's Gracie Hines and Oakland's Rachel Massaro.

Grisham finished 13th at state (53.35) in the 100 freestyle and 18th at state in the 200 freestyle (1:57.30). She won the county meet in both the 200 IM (2:17.43) and 500 free (5:26.14), which set a meet record.

Hines finished 21st at state (25.20) and first in the county (26.57) in the 50 freestyle while also winning the county meet in the 100 free. She was on the Riverdale 200 free relay team that finished 30th in the state.

Massaro finished seventh in the state (57.7) while breaking a county meet record (1:00.90) in the 100 backstroke. She took 10th at state (2:08.71) and second in the county (2:19.00) in the 200 IM while being part of the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams that finished first in the county and enjoyed success at state.

The finalists for all-area boys swimmer of the year are Oakland's Joey Clemmer, La Vergne's Telly Coleman and Siegel's Paul Kullmar.

Clemmer finished 12th at state (59.63) in the 100 breaststroke and 17th at state (1:59.90) in the 200 IM. He won the county title in the 200 freestyle (1:58.01) and was part of the 200 medley and 400 free relay teams that won county titles.

Coleman finished 42nd at state (57.18) and first in the county (56.89) in the 100 butterfly. He was first in the county (52.31) in the 100 freestyle and finished 61st at state in the 50 freestyle.

Kullmar won the county 500 freestyle title (5:27.83) while also placing 40th at state and winning the county title in the 200 individual medley and 44th at state in the 100 breaststroke. He was part of Siegel's 200 free relay team that took 43rd at state and 200 medley relay team that was 39th at state.

Swimmers of the year will be announced at an end-of-the-season ceremony hosted by The Daily News Journal.
