Larry Franklin takes over at Trezevant

Larry Franklin has been named Trezevant's football coach, capping a tumultuous few months for a team that has won the past two Class 2A state championships.

Franklin, a Purple Bears assistant in 2016, replaces Orentheus Taylor, who left after a brief stint on the job to take over at Jackson Liberty Tech. Taylor replaced Teli White, who will coach at Melrose this season.

It will be Franklin's second go-round as Trezevant coach; he guided the Purple Bears to a 23-30 record and three Class 3A playoff appearances from 2002-06. Trezevant will be back in 3A this season after TSSAA reclassification.

Franklin's team opens the regular season Aug. 18 at Harding Academy.
