The DNJ's All-Area Girls Soccer Player of the Year finalists are (l-r) Oakland's Katie Webb, Siegel's Janie Hopper and Smyrna's Ashley Barrientos.

With three teams reaching region play and two advancing to the state tournament, it was a banner year for girls soccer in the Murfreesboro area.

Smyrna won the 9-AAA tourney and advanced to the region while Oakland and Siegel both advanced to the state tournament.

Those three teams are represented well on the Daily News Journal's All-Area Girls Soccer Team, including the three finalists for Player of the Year.

Smyrna's Ashley Barrientos, Siegel's Janie Hopper and Oakland's Katie Webb are up for the top award, which will be announced at a ceremony near the end of the school year.

Barrientos, a junior forward, scored 26 goals and dished out 12 assists for the Lady Bulldogs, earning 9-AAA Offensive MVP honors.

Hopper, a senior forward, scored 20 goals with 14 assists in earning 7-AAA Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Webb, a senior defender, was the catalyst of a Lady Patriot defense that allowed less than a goal per game.
