Jayla Hemingway, Trey Davis win fans' player of the week poll

Jayla Hemingway of Houston and Trey Davis of St. Benedict are this week's winners in the fans' voting for high school basketball player of the week.

Hemingway, a junior, averaged 32.7 points in three victories for the Mustangs last week. She tallied 48.99 percent of the vote — 1,521 in total — to easily defeat Annaliese Burnett of MHEA, who finished second with 26.02 percent (808 votes). Jireh Washington of Central was third and Sade Hudson of Trezevant was fourth.

On the boys side Davis, a senior, was the winner after scoring 21 points to lead the Eagles to an upset victory over region rival Briarcrest. He garnered 3,227 votes (43.87) percent to outpace John McBride of MUS (2,690, 36.57 percent). Malik Riddle of Rossville was third and Arecko Gipson of MASE fourth.
