'Fabulous Four' lead the way for The King's Academy softball

There's always one player on a team that everyone looks up to for guidance and support. The King's Academy softball has four.

TKA celebrates after a home run hit by King's Academy's Hayden Jenkins (00) during a Division II Class A softball game between King's Academy and Friendship Christian at the 2017 TSSAA Spring Fling state championships at the Murfreesboro Sports Complex & McKnight Fields in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Friday, May 26, 2017.

They call them the "Fabulous Four:" Regan Weekly, Madison Webber, Haydyn Jenkins and Katelyn Norris. All four girls are juniors and have been with coach Marc Weekly since they were in eighth grade.

"I've been able to see them grow, I've coached them in travel ball and to know I get them for another year is pretty spectacular," Weekly said.

These four players stick out for their accolades. Together the group has accounted for eight all-region selections, six all-state, two all-Americans and four FLOSoftball top 100 selections for the class of 2019. That's just in the last three years.

"What I love most about them is that their game IQ is just so high and they bring an energy level to the field every time, so really I don't have to coach them on a regular basis and they are even better kids than players," said Marc Weekly

The whole team's chemistry helps generate the Lions' continued success — they won back-to-back Division II-A state titles and are currently ranked top in the state.

"We are really close as a team, we know that when these girls are talking it is genuine and that they are really supporting you," Regan Weekly said.

With their success, the Lions knew they have some competition trying to bring them down.

"I think there was a lot of pressure at the beginning, there were a lot of targets on our back but we didn't focus on that we just focused on what we needed to do," said Norris.

After defeating Grace Christian 12-2 in the District Championship, The King's Academy looks forward to more postseason action, and to put the pressure of the regular season behind them.
