Brentwood volleyball standout Logan Eggleston has moved up her arrival to Texas.

Eggleston will graduate a year early and join the Texas Longhorns volleyball roster this fall.

"It worked out perfectly," said Logan's mom, Lori Eggleston. "It turns out they have a scholarship available right now. They had been looking around the country.

"They felt like Logan could mesh in with the girls right now."

Logan started taking the few online courses in mid-April and finished them Monday to allow her to graduate later this month with this year's Brentwood senior class.

"When I first heard about it, I said, 'Yes, I have to go,'" said Logan, who planned on graduating in January anyway. "I've never heard of anyone graduating a year early, at least in volleyball."

Logan spoke with Brentwood coach Barbara Campbell, her teammates and sister Shaye, who is on the team.

"They told me they didn't want to hold me back," Logan said. "I have this opportunity and they wanted me to take it now. They were super supportive."

Lori, who is a guidance counselor at Brentwood, said she figured out quickly what it would take to graduate a year early.

"I kind of had it figured with three, four or five different ways," she said. "When we initially started talking about it the plan was to see about getting it done by the end of July.

"The next thing I knew she said, 'I want to finish it now.' But that's Logan. She wanted to walk at graduation with this year's class. Once she gets that mindset, she gives 100 percent and gets it done."

Logan, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, was The Tennessean's volleyball player of the year in 2017. She is one of five nominees for this year's honor, which will be announced June 3 at the third annual Tennessean Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Eggleston, the Class AAA state tournament MVP, recorded 377 kills and 170 digs despite missing half the season playing for Team USA in the U18 World Championships. She sat out part of the season after the championships to rest her back.

Brentwood won its fifth straight Class AAA state championship this past season.
