Ron Lambert leaves Whites Creek football for second-year RePublic program

Whites Creek coach Ron Lambert

Ron Lambert’s stay at Whites Creek High School was a short one, and he didn’t have to go far to find his next home.

Lambert, who was hired as head football coach of the Cobras a little over a year ago, recently resigned his post at Whites Creek and has accepted the job at second-year Metro program RePublic.

“It just felt like there was a lack of commitment, from the players, from the parents and just as a whole, at Whites Creek,” Lambert said. “I just think there’s a great chance for me to have a bigger impact (at RePublic) because of some of things that are in place there.”

The Cobras finished with a 1-9 record in 2017. RePublic, meanwhile, went winless in its first season of varsity competition.

“Next year is going to be our first senior class so that’s really exciting,” Lambert said. “They haven’t won a game in the year they’ve been playing a varsity schedule, but there are some really good kids in place – some kids that are talented and hungry.

Lambert, who spent seven seasons at Clarksville’s Rossview High School (2010-16), led the Hawks to a 36-38 record with three playoff appearances. He replaces former Trailblazers coach Weldon Garlington, who went 0-9 in one season at the Metro Nashville charter school.

More football resignations: Brent Johns has stepped down as football coach at Forrest High School.

A 1990 Forrest graduate, Johns compiled a 15-9 record in two season.

Nathan Wilson has resigned as head football coach at Macon County in order to become an assistant at Gallatin.

Wilson compiled a 29-25 record with three Class 4A playoff appearances in five seasons with the Tigers.

“I’ve been blessed to coach in my hometown for 14 years," Wilson said. "I wish the current and future players at MCHS much success. It was time for me to make a move."
