Fairview High School senior Kaylee Bartee accomplished a long-held personal goal on Wednesday morning when she won the TSSAA State Championship in the high jump.

Fairview High’s Kaylee Bartee wins State Championship in high jump competition at Spring Fling on May 23, 2018.

While the State competition field events started early Wednesday morning, Bartee’s mission actually began in August 2014. “The first day of high school, I walked into the gym and saw the State Champion banner. And knew I was going to be up there one day,” said Bartee, who also played volleyball and basketball for Fairview High.

A strong contender going into the State competition, Bartee secured a 5' 2” jump. “This is the second time this year that I've gotten that,” said Bartee. She scored the same height last week at the sectionals meet.

While Bartee is quick to say she worked hard four years to accomplish her goal, she also said, “I owe it to my coaches, friends and family” for their help and continued support.

Running and jumping year around, almost every day, Bartee said, “Training for track and field is intense, but worth it!”

Bartee said she plans to play volleyball and compete in high jump for the Governors at Austin Peay State University.

Bartee is only the second Fairview High School female to ever win a State title. FHS Athletic Director Ricky Jones said, "She literally has set the bar high for all future ladies in Fairview athletics. I am so very proud of her accomplishments."
