Wendi Scott will get a chance to coach high school girls basketball in Murfreesboro — again.

Scott, a former Lawrence County standout basketball player and girls basketball coach, was named the next Blackman girls basketball coach on Thursday, replacing Jessica Jackson.

Jackson resigned last month to take an administrative position at Blackman Middle.

Scott's hiring comes more than three years after she had been named the Riverdale girls basketball coach only to resign shortly after when she found out she was expecting her third child.

"He's two and a half and he's a gym rat," Scott said of her son Zeke. "He's a good baby. I've still been coaching middle school. He's been in the gym since he was born."

Scott had a 153-36 record at Lawrence County and was a four-time District 8-AAA coach of the year.

Scott was a member of the 1998 Lawrence County team that won the Class AAA girls basketball state title. Her younger brother Kit Hartsfield is entering his first season as Blackman's football coach.

"He told me all about the school, the administration and what they stand for," she said. "That made me more comfortable. To be able to work at the same school as him is pretty neat."

Blackman finished 18-15 this past season, losing to Bradley Central in a Class AAA sectional.

High school girls basketball: Riverdale girls basketball coach Randy Coffman leaving after 3 straight state titles

City rival Riverdale defeated the Lady Blaze three times and went on to win its third straight Class AAA state championship under coach Randy Coffman.

"You know if you can put together a team competitive in this district, you compete with anyone in this state," said Scott, who was an assistant at Riverdale from 2003-06. "There is a good group of girls coming back. I don't know a lot of the details.

"I've been told enough that I know this is something to be excited about. I'm ready to get started."

Coincidentally, Coffman resigned last month to accept the same position at Lakeway Christian Academy in Morristown.
