The high school football season begins this week across the state.

Harpeth hosts Clarksville Academy on Friday. Cheatham County travels to Hunters Lane and Sycamore hosts Montgomery Central.

Here are 12 players to watch this season in Cheatham County.

Cheatham County's Walker Bunce runs the football against Greenbrier.

Luke Gossett, Harpeth, Jr., RB/S: Gossett rushed for 762 yards with seven touchdowns in 2017. He also had 59 tackles.

Charlie Martin, Cheatham County, Sr., RB/LB/K: As someone who tried out for the team last summer 'just for fun,' Martin had four interceptions and had a perfect field goal percentage, converting on all three attempts.

Dawson Primm, Cheatham County, Jr., RB/S: Last season, Primm rushed for 250 yards on 52 carries. The senior running back also ran for four touchdowns.

Hayden Roth, Sycamore, Sr., WR/DB: Roth was a huge contributor in the secondary last season with 32 total tackles, as he was named to the All-Region 6-3A team. He should be a big play threat on the offensive side of the ball this season.

Matthew Pack, Harpeth, So., LB: Pack recorded 67 tackles a year ago as a freshman for the Indians.

Sycamore's Triston Hampton makes a tackle.

Trevor Gagnon, Sycamore, Sr., QB/DB: The senior quarterback started the final three games of last season, and played multiple positions throughout the year. In the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs against Giles County, Gagnon had 137 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Triston Hampton, Sycamore, Sr., LB: This 2018 Murphy Fair Pre-Season All-State selection made over 100 tackles and caught three interceptions last season. He was also named TSWA and TNFCA All-State in 2017.

Tyler Niebel, Sycamore, Jr., RB/LB: Neibel is looking to have a breakout year after last season. The War Eagles running back scored his first varsity touchdown against Harpeth in a 24-0 shutout in 2017.

Walker Bunce, Cheatham County, Sr., RB/S: Bunce is hoping to have a positive impact for the Cubs. He ended last season with 822 yards on 88 carries, rushing for nine touchdowns. He also had 227 receiving yards.

Freddy Polk, Harpeth, Sr., RB: Polk rushed for 545 yards on 94 carries and scored six rushing touchdowns a year ago.

Zach Kessler, Cheatham County, Jr., DE/TE: Kessler will be a key player for Cheatham County in 2018. Last season he had 70 tackles, including 22 for loss and 11 sacks.

Zack Sullivan, Sycamore, Sr., DT/OT: This four-year starter and three-time all-region selection had 47 total tackles and two sacks last season. Expect for him to continue his consistent play on the defensive end.
