East, Science Hill Pick-Up Dramatic Five-Set Victories; D-B Prevails in Four

Area conference volleyball action on Thursday night produced a pair of scintillating five-set matches and a compelling four-setter. Sullivan East rallied from down two sets to one to get past Elizabethton as did Science Hill to upend Tennessee High. Meanwhile, Dobyns-Bennett fought off a stern Boone challenge to win in four.

Science Hill 3, Tennessee High 2 

Science Hill got a trio of double-digit kills from Ella Gay, Claire Thomas and Riley Layton to rally for a 25-23, 20-25, 18-25, 25-19, 16-14 Big 6 Conference victory over Science Hill

Gay put down 14 winners while Thomas and Layton finished with ten kills apiece. Chloe Smith dished out 26 assists and Alyssa Neal 19 for the Lady ‘Toppers.

Defensively, Kenzie Clark recorded 21 digs and Meghan Carroll 17. Gay has six blocks and Attie Forbes three rejections.

Kloey Tester led the Lady Viking offense with 12 kills and also contributed eight digs. Maggie Hicks added ten kills and four blocks and Sahra Lambert had nine kills and 6 blocks. 

Macy Hurley handed out 22 digs and Evie Cozart added 10. Riley McCracken dished out 21 assists and had seven digs while Aubrey McCray added 19 assists. 

Sullivan East 3, Elizabethton 2

For the second time in three days, Sullivan East was enthralled in a five-set Three Rivers Conference battle.

This time, the Lady Patriots came out victories over the Lady Cyclones, 23-25, 25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 16-14.

Sydney Byrd unleashed 31 kills in the contest with Lauren Ledford contributing 14 winners. Ashton Adkins dished out 67 assists.

Paxton Adkins came up with 16 digs and Mattie Gouge contributed 11 digs.

Dobyns-Bennett 3, Daniel Boone 1

The Dobyns-Bennett Lady Indians were forced to a fourth set for the first time this season, but still came out a winner for the third time in as many tries, recording a 24-26, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15 victory over Daniel Boone.

The Lady Tribe got a double double-double on the night with Staley Humphries producing 20 kills and a dozen digs to go with four aces. Rylee Waye handed out 57 assists and also came up with 11 digs.

Hannah Watson added 17 kills and three blocks with Caroline Cable finishing with nine kills. Sithney Wolfe notched 11 kills.

Chloe Harless came away with 27 dgis and Zoie Larkins brought up 22 digs and served a pair of aces.
