Sycamore and Cheatham County shined the brightest in Cheatham County on Friday.

Sycamore throttled Stewart County, 54-26. Cheatham County shutout Harpeth, 36-0.

Here are three takeaways from Week 5 of the regular season.

Harpeth's losing streak continues

This season is not going as Harpeth planned. The Indians have yet to win a game, and in their latest challenge against rival Cheatham County, they were shut out for the second time this season.

"We got a three-and-out to start the game, then picked up a first down on our initial possession, but struggled again with consistency," Harpeth coach Doug Loope said. "We hit on another long pass to Luke Gossett, and Cade Astren had a great run for a first down, but we didn’t capitalize."

Things don't get easier for the Indians. Next week, they travel to play Montgomery Central, which is undefeated on the season.

Cheatham County's ground game

Cheatham County overwhelmed Harpeth with its explosive running game. As a team, the Cubs had 219 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Senior running back Walker Bunce had two of those touchdowns, as he rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries.

"On offense, we did a pretty good job of running the ball," Cheatham County coach Eric Hatley said. "We saw improvement from our offensive line and were able to get some things going on the ground."

Senior Charlie Martin added 79 rushing yards on six carries and a touchdown. Hatley was also pleased with how his team performed defensively.

"I feel like we did a good job limiting the big play abilities of (Luke Gossett)," Hatley said. "We limited their ability to run the ball and were able to get to the QB a couple of times defensively."

Cheatham hosts Hillwood next week.

Sycamore blasts Stewart County

After a brutal loss to Davidson County last week, Sycamore got back on track with a 54-26 victory over Stewart County.

Junior running back Tyler Niebel led the way for the War Eagles, rushing for 252 yards on 21 carries, while adding four touchdowns. Hayden Roth added 131 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore quarterback Grady McPherson held his own with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown.

"It was a productive night for our guys offensively," Sycamore coach Justin Robison said. "Was nice to see our offense click efficiently. Couple of things to fix in the defensive secondary."

Sycamore will get another chance to make those defensive adjustments next week against White House.
