The Baylor boys' golf team shaved nine strokes off their day one scores to capture the 2018 TSSAA State Championship at Willow Brook Tuesday. Baylor finished with a total of 290 on Tuesday posting a two-day total of 589 beating Montgomery Bell Academy and Ensworth by 15 strokes. “I am so proud of and happy for these boys. With no senior in the lineup, I wasn’t sure how we would hold up on the big stage. Conditions were not easy, but our guys competed and saved their best for last”, added head coach Gary Partrick.
Junior Nathan Webb led the Red Raiders on Tuesday shooting a blistering 68 on Tuesday to post his tournament total of 77-68-145, good enough to tie for third place individually with Baylor freshman Sheldon McKnight, who shot even par 72 on Tuesday to card a 73-72-145 for the tournament.
Junior Demi di Matteo finished fifth with a 71-75-146 total and juniors Matt Tanrudee and Trent Davis finished tied for 14th with identical scores of 78-75-153.
The state championship is the 18th for the Baylor boys' team and the first state title since 2015.
