Cheatham County, Sycamore reach Class 3A high school football playoffs

In the final week of the regular season, Cheatham County and Sycamore advanced to the Class 3A playoffs. Harpeth was unable to secure a playoff berth, finishing 2-8 after losing to Sycamore on Friday.

Here are both playoff matchups.

Sycamore (4-6) at East Nashville (9-1)

To conclude the regular season, Sycamore snapped a four-game losing streak with a 21-10 win over Harpeth. With the victory, the War Eagles claimed the I-24/I-40 trophy for the second straight year.

Sycamore travels to East Nashville for a 7 p.m. first round playoff game.

Sophomore quarterback Grady McPherson was 7 of 11 passing for 97 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 85 yards on 12 carries. Junior running back Tyler Niebel rushed for 138 yards on 20 carries.

"I’m proud of our kids," Sycamore coach Justin Robison said. "Lots of kids stepped up in new roles and made plays for us. Our expectations for East [Nashville] are to see a fast, physical team. We will get ready for them and try to play our best game of the season."

The War Eagles are in the Class 3A playoffs as the third seed from Region 6-3A. They are in the postseason for the third consecutive season, and will face East Nashville on Friday.

Sycamore lost a 50-20 first round matchup against Giles County last season.

Cheatham County (4-6) at Pearl-Cohn (8-2)

Cheatham County wanted to end the regular season with a win, but fell short with its 39-7 loss to Fairview in the regular season finale.

Fairview senior quarterback Brock Harris was 9 of 15 passing for 145 yards and one touchdown. He also added a touchdown on the ground.

Cheatham County travels to Pearl-Cohn for the first round of the Region Class 3A playoffs. The Cubs' season ended in the first round last year at the hands of East Nashville.
