Lipscomb Academy on Thursday announced the resignation of football coach Scott Tillman.

Tillman, who was named Lipscomb’s interim coach after the 2013 death of legendary coach Glenn McCadams, compiled a 35-32 record in his five-plus seasons, leading the Mustangs to six consecutive playoff appearances.

“Coach Scott Tillman has had an impact on our school that reaches far beyond the football field,” Lipscomb athletics director Mike Roller said. “In addition to the work on the football field, Coach Tillman’s greatest impact has been on transforming lives and developing players into Godly men.”

Tillman, who spent 19 years as an assistant under McCadams, will remain a faculty member at Lipscomb and will continue to serve as the school’s assistant athletics director.

Lipscomb strength and conditioning coach Bryan Van Vleet will take over as interim coach, effective Jan. 1, 2019. However, the school will immediately begin its search for Tillman’s successor.

The Mustangs, who suffered a 29-13 first-round playoff loss to Evangelical Christian, finished with a 2-9 record in 2018.
