Former Cleveland head volleyball coach Patricia Flowers has been hired to take over the Siegel program.

Siegel players and fans are already familiar with their new head volleyball coach.

Patricia Flowers and her Cleveland squad faced the Lady Stars in this season's Class AAA sectional game.

Flowers was named Siegel's new coach Tuesday, replacing Shawn Robinson, who resigned after the season to concentrate on his new job with Rutherford County Schools' central office.

"I know that I have big shoes to fill for sure," said Flowers, who led her squad to the sectional this season (a 3-1 loss to Siegel) after taking her squad to the Class AAA state tournament in 2016 and 2017.

"I’m excited for the challenge and see if I’m up to the task. I feel like I am, or I wouldn’t have taken the job. I'm ready for a new adventure."

Flowers, 40, coached at Cleveland for 15 years. She also has been a longtime club volleyball coach in the area.

"She's had a very successful program there," Siegel principal Larry Creasy said. "They've been to state (a) couple of times. That’s our expectation at Siegel in volleyball, to compete for state championship.

"She’s also a great English teacher. We're excited to get her in the classroom as well. We had a lot of great applicants and interviews. It came back to her success and experience. We felt that's what we needed at Siegel."

Siegel reached the state tournament in each of Robinson's five seasons and made it to the championship match for the first time in program history this season, eventually falling to Brentwood.

Siegel could be getting more than just a good volleyball coach. Flowers' son, Robert "Deuce" Flowers, is a 6-foot-4 football and baseball player. He had 32 receptions for 700 yards and nine touchdowns for Cleveland this season and is also a left-handed pitcher.

Siegel returns several key members of its 2018 squad, including all-state setter Sophia Bossong.
