How Brentwood Academy defeated MUS in the Division II-AAA BlueCross Bowl

COOKEVILLE — Brentwood Academy faces Memphis University School at 7 p.m. in the Division II-AAA BlueCross Bowl.

Brentwood Academy is seeking its fourth straight state championship in Division II. The Eagles won last syear in DII-AAA and in 2015 and 2016 in Division II-AA.

MUS (M33): Grant Stacey, who already has a sack this evening, picks off Seller Shy's third-down pass, giving the Eagles possession at the 39-yard line.

BA (M35): Wade Williams took a huge hit on an option to the left, but he got the pitch to Pleasant off in time, resulting in a 14-yard gain ... Williams fakes a handoff to the right, fooling the entire MUS defense before finding a wide open Jordan James for a 16-yard touchdown pass. (BA 28, MUS 6 - 3:51 2Q)

Brentwood Academy comes out with a surprise onside on the ensuing kickoff and the gamble pays off. Eagles take over at the MUS 35 with 5:22 left in the second quarter.

BA (M37): Pleasant rips off a 44-yard touchdown run to give Brentwood Academy a 15-point lead. (BA 21, MUS 6 - 5:23 2Q)

MUS (M19): MUS fails to answer the Eagles score. In fact, the Owls failed to pick up a single yard on the ensuing possession, bringing up another punting situation. 

BA (B11): Jordan James picks up seven yards on his first carry of the night the the Eagles ... Brentwood Academy is having a hard time getting much going on the ground against a very physical MUS defense. However, the Owls do spot the Eagles 15 yards with a face mask ... MUS (M26): Sellers Shy with another nice throw over the middle to Hampton for a 16-yard gain ... Owls come up a yard shy on third and eight and punt the ball back to Brentwood Academy. 

BA (Cont'd): Wade Williams' third-down pass falls incomplete, and Brentwood Academy's Patrick Doyle punts it away to the Owls. 

First quarter

BA (BA6): Wade Williams fires a nine-yard completion to Ryan Victory on third down, giving the Eagles some breathing room and a first down ... Williams with another first-down completion to Victory out to the 31 ... MUS (BA31): Sellers Shy completes a pass to Maurice Hampton inside the 10-yard line, but Hampton coughs the ball up and Brentwood Academy's Amir Annoor pounces on it. 

MUS recovers the ensuing kicking, setting the Owls up with a first and 10 from the BA31

MUS (M35): Hunter Kendall picks up seven yards for an Owls first down ... Sellers Shy fires a 10-yard pass to Jalen Holliman for another MUS first down, but BA's Grant Stacey sacks Shy for a 9-yard loss on the next snap ... Shy with a 8-yard scramble on fourth down gives the Owls a first down at the BA 28 ... Nicely executed screen pass to Holliman gives MUS a first and goal ... Pregame

Brentwood Academy (10-2) is looking to become just the fourth school in TSSAA history to win four consecutive state titles Friday at Tennessee Tech's Tucker Stadium. 

Memphis University School (11-0) is making its first BlueCross Bowl appearance since 2013, which is also the last time a non-Nashville area school advanced to the championship in the TSSAA's largest Division II class.
