COOKEVILLE — It wasn't expected.

Perhaps, though, it should have.

Brentwood Academy won its fourth straight TSSAA Division II state football championship on Friday, beating Memphis University School 28-6 in the Division II-AAA championship at Tennessee Tech's Tucker Stadium.

The win came after winning the DII-AA state titles in 2015 and 2016 before winning the DII-AAA championship in 2017.

"At some point it's probably going to end," Brentwood Academy coach Cody White said of the Eagles' championship streak. "I think we'll always have a tradition that is strong enough that we'll always be in the mix."

Brentwood Academy senior Tomario Pleasant, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound senior, was the Eagles workhorse, carrying the ball 32 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He was named the DII-AAA championship game's MVP.

"Tomario was a warrior," White said. "He has been for three years. You saw him — he's little.

"I don't know how he does it. He's a spectacular competitor."

Pleasant was one of 19 Brentwood Academy seniors to finish their careers with another state championship.

"That's pretty neat for them," White said. "They never experienced a loss in the playoffs.

"It's a really solid group. There is not many super stars. Some will play on in college. But others played their last game (Friday night)."
