Talk to any Oakland High football fan and they will assure you they have the best football coach in Tennessee.

On Monday, the Tennessee Titans confirmed that as well, naming Kevin Creasy as their 2018 Coach of the Year.

"To be recognized by an NFL team is really special," said Creasy. "There were a lot of great coaches nominated for it. To be selected is very humbling."

The Patriots are fresh off a Class 6A state championship, defeating Whitehaven 37-0 in Thursday's BlueCross Bowl at Tennessee Tech. Oakland (14-1) dominated both the Tigers and semifinals foe Maryville (38-0) en route to the title.

Oakland outscored its playoff opponents 166-17 and finished the season outscoring foes 637-88. The lone loss came during Week 2 at Maryville (24-21), which the Patriots more than avenged during the state semifinals.

The state title was the first in his four years at Oakland but the fourth overall for Creasy, also having won at Trousdale County (2008, 2009, 2013).

“Coach Creasy’s body of work is incredible,” said Josh Corey, Tennessee Titans Football Outreach Coordinator. “Oakland plays in one of the toughest regions in the state’s largest classification. Their run through the TSSAA playoffs this year, specifically in the Semifinal and Championship games, was extremely impressive.

"We got a first look at the team this summer in our annual 7-on-7 tournament. They took home the trophy then and they took it home again in the state championship game last Thursday. We’re proud to recognize such an outstanding team and coach.”

It's the first time Creasy (who is 53-5 at Oakland, 132-17 overall) has won the Tennessee Titans Coach of the Year award.

"I hope my assistant coaches know that it's a reflection of all the hard work and what they've done," Creasy said. "Our players know that any individual awards is a team accomplishment."

Creasy will receive a grant in the amount of $2,000 to benefit his football program, as well as an all-expense paid trip to the 2019 Pro Bowl in Orlando.

His selection also qualifies him for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year award. The winner, announced in January, receives $10,000 and his high school football program is awarded $15,000.
