KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Twenty-eight teams from across the southeast and mideast will converge on the Buck Van Huss Dome this weekend for the 2018 Indian Classic.

Teams entered represent the state of Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania with seven boasting state championship last year and a total of 15 ranking in the top five of their respective states.

“This is one of the toughest tournaments in the state due to so much talent from other states,” said Dobyns-Bennett and Director Welsey Idlette. “It’s great for our kids to not have to travel far to get great quality matches.”

Some of the top incoming teams include Christian Brothers from Memphis, Independence (WV), Tampa Jesuit (FL) and Parkersburg (WV).

Idlette says some of the best wrestlers expected to be on hand include Ethan Basile from Tampa Jesuit and Michael Kramer.

“Kramer is ranked 13th nationally in his class,” noted Idlette,” and Basile has won his weight twice here before.”

Wrestling begins Friday at 4:30 with junior varsity action. The varsity grapplers hit the mats at 6:00 p.m.

Saturday’s action begins at 9:00 a.m.
