It has been 18 days since Gallatin High School announced that seventh year head coach Mark Williams would step down from his position of head football coach.

In a span of nearly three weeks, Gallatin officials have trimmed an extensive applicant list down to 10 hopefuls and will begin interviews as early as Monday, December 10.

“We will want our interviews to begin at some point next week,” Gallatin Principal Dr. Ron Becker stated. “It all depends on coordination on our end and with those that we choose to bring in.”

Dr. Becker stood firm in his decision to not rush the hire saying he still has complete confidence in the current staff that they can keep the team moving forward.

“There still isn’t a dead set date,” he said of when he wanted to make a hire. “If we can fit the interviews in before we break for the holidays that would be wonderful.”

Becker also stated that he isn’t opposed to looking outside of Sumner County but does say if they choose that route there is more time required to make the hire.

“If we do go with anyone outside of Sumner County we do need to get it cleared through human resources before it can be made to the public,” he said. “Again, the timing would depend on that. We would love to get the interviews completed before we break for the holidays.”

Fans of the Green Wave should know that the list of candidates being mulled over is much stronger than it was seven years ago.

“We are really pleased with all the applicants and the interest in coaching at Gallatin High School,” Becker added. “The applicants are stronger, more experienced group than the group we came across seven years ago.”
