All members of the Knox News All-PrepXtra volleyball first team are nominees for the volleyball player of the year. The winner will be announced May 29 at the third annual Knox News Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans.

Why chosen: The College of Charleston commitment was named the Region 1-6A hitter of the year.

Why chosen: The ETSU signee helped lead Catholic to the Class AA state championship game with 332 kills, 227 digs, 29 total blocks and 19 aces.

Why chosen: The Carson-Newman commitment had 312 kills, 145 digs, 32 aces and 25 total blocks.  

Kayleigh Hames, Webb

Position: Outside Hitter

Why chosen: The Pepperdine signee led Webb to its sixth straight state championship at the Division II-A tournament and was state tournament MVP. She had 708 kills, 299 digs, 67 assists and 66 aces this season.

Position: Setter

Why chosen: The Tennessee signee led Heritage to its first state tournament appearance. She is the No. 9 setter in the country, according to PrepVolleyball.com and had 531 assists, 510 digs, 482 kills and 87 aces.

Why chosen: The Tennessee commitment helped lead Catholic to the Class AA state championship game. This season she logged 459 digs, 47 assists and 36 aces.

Position: Middle hitter

Why chosen: The Lipscomb commitment had 71 total blocks and 40 solo blocks. She also had 212 kills and 23 aces.

Position: Outside hitter

Why chosen: Sulish led Concord Christian the Division II-A state championship game — the first in school history. This season she registered 584 kills, 193 digs and 101 aces.
