C.J. Petrin a state bowling runner-up; Haun, Haro third

Notre Dame sophomore C.J. Petrin finished second with McCallie's Andrew Haun and Jet Hieronymus third and fourth Friday in the TSSAA Division II boys' individual state bowling finals in Smyrna, and Walker Valley senior Natily Haro won three ladder matches in finishing third among Division I girls.

Haro's last win left Rhea County senior Baylee Shipley in fourth place, and Rhea junior Phillip Rogers finished fifth in the Division I boys' eliminations. He lost 226-207 to fourth-seeded Smyrna senior Josh Meeke, who went on to win the championship with game scores of 219, 261 and 235 pins.

The Baylor girls are the only Chattanooga-area representatives still alive in team play. They won their Division II quarterfinal 20-7 over St. Benedict (11-2) and take a 9-2 season record into a semifinal at 11:30 EST this morning against Friendship Christian (13-0), a 23-4 victor over Goodpasture Christian.

Girls Preparatory School (6-8) lost 19.5-7.5 to Pope John Paul II (10-1). PJP's boys (12-1) beat McCallie (7-9) 21-6 while Notre Dame (19-2) was bowing 18-9 to Christian Brothers (13-3).

After Hieronymus, a junior, defeated Christian Brothers' Tony Craig, he fell 200-168 to sophomore teammate Haun, who then lost 223-191 to Petrin. Petrin narrowly lost the championship game against Friendship Christian senior Dalton Karstens, 210-207.

Haro won 205-192 over Germantown's Jada Horn, 236-201 over Siegel's Danielle Jedlicki and 198-157 over Shipley before losing 221-151 to Hardin County sophomore Kailee Channell, who lost 221-214 to senior teammate Faith Welch in another tight final.
