KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Dobyns-Bennett has announced former Sullivan South Lady Rebel all-stater and former Virginia Tech Hokie Haley Price as the school’s next head volleyball coach.

"We are excited to have Coach Price serve and mentor our student athletes at Dobyns-Bennett,” said Dobyns-Bennett athletic director Larry Shively. “She has the knowledge, attention to detail and culture, and enthusiasm required to lead our Volleyball program to long term success.”

As an outside hitter, Price led the Lady Rebels to a Class AA state championship under coach Wendy Ratliff. Price was also earned multiple all-conference, all-district tournament and all-region tournament accolades as well as being named all-state.

Price then joined the Hokies as a defensive specialist, where she was named as the Captain of the Defense the same semester in which she suffered a career-ending injury that eventually required a series of three surgeries.

Price graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Neuroscience, but wanting to still remain connected to volleyball, became a coach with a local travel volleyball club.

The Kingsport-native is excited about the opportunity to further coach in her hometown.

“I am humbled and honored to accept the invitation to coach for such an accomplished program,” Price said. “I have been fortunate to have learned a great deal from the coaches I have played for and worked with during my volleyball career.”

Price succeeds Megan Devine Ailshie who served her alma mater as head coach for two years before joining her mother Lindsey’s new staff at the University of Alabama. The Lady Indians finished third in the Class AAA Tournament last season.

“I am excited to join a culture of excellence that so many coaches and players before us have built with the help of an outstanding Athletics Department,” continued Price. “I look forward to continuing a culture of high performance and building champions in the classroom, in the community, and on the court.”

Shively said Price was selected from a group of strong applicants.

“Haley presented her vision for volleyball in Kingsport and her plan to continue our success,” said Shively. “We are thrilled to welcome Coach Price into our Athletic Department and our school."
