JOHNSON CITY – It shouldn’t have come as any surprise that Dobyns-Bennett’s soccer team defeated rival Science Hill 4-2 on Tuesday at Kermit Tipton Stadium.

It seemed as though the Indians had 12 players on the field.

Proceeds from the matchup went to aid Michael Smelser, a former Dobyns-Bennett player and Science Hill coach that suffered second- and third-degree burns to his legs during a campfire explosion last week.

Dobyns-Bennett senior forward Sam Garcia, wearing jersey No. 8 to honor Smelser, scored two goals as the Indians improved to 2-0 while handing the Hilltoppers a season-opening loss.
