Science Hill Cruises to Elimination Win Over Volunteer

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- A pair of Science Hill pitchers combined on a six-inning, three-hit, 10-0 shutout of Volunteer in the first round of the District 1-AAA Baseball Tournament Friday evening at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.
Andrew Miller allowed just one hit in four innings and Dustin Eatmon two base hits in two frames. Together, the duo needed just 56 pitches to dispatch of the Falcons.
A five-run second inning blew open the game for the ‘Toppers. The inning started with a Caleb Marmo solo home run to give Science Hill a 2-0 lead. Three runs in the sixth finished off the visitors.
Alex Elmore went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, two runs batted in and one run scored for Science Hill. Landon Slemp and Matthew Levi both finished 2-for-3. Slemp doubled, walked and scored three times while Levi tripled, walked, scored twice and drove in one.
Jackson Hill doubled home a pair of runs while Cade McCoy scored two and brought home one. Hunter Phillips, singled, walked twice, drove in one and scored one.
Ty Burnette, Eli Dixon, Rylan Greene picked up Volunteer’s three hits.
Science Hill advances to Saturday’s double-elimination portion of the tournament where it will face No. 3 Daniel Boone at 10:30 a.m.
Volunteer concludes its season at 6-22.
