Regan Weekly, The King's Academy's second baseman, was named the  2018-2019 Gatorade Tennessee softball player of the year.

Weekly, granddaughter of Tennessee softball coaches Karen and Ralph Weekly, is a Dartmouth signee.

"It is such an honor to receive such a prestigious award," Weekly said in a text message. "I would like to thank God for giving me the ability to play the sport I love, my parents for dedicating so much time, energy, and money to my softball career since I was a little girl, and my teammates for always supporting me and pushing me to be better."

She helped lead the Lady Lions to the Division II-A state championship at Spring Fling, beating Chattanooga Christian 3-1 last Friday. This season, Weekly hit .566 with 21 home runs and 70 RBIs. It was The King's Academy's third state championship title in the last four seasons.

Weekly was named the softball player of the year at the third annual Knox News Sports Awards presented by Farm Bureau Health Plans on Wednesday night.

She is a candidate for the Gatorade national softball player of the year award.
