Katie Cotten goes up for a header on a corner kick Saturday morning against Cascade. Cotten scored two goals in a win over Rockvale and had an assist against Franklin County.
Central High School girls' soccer continued to prepare for the 2019 season on Saturday, August 10 at Coffee County Raider Academy. The Lady Raiders hosted a scrimmage playday that saw the varsity team finish with two wins and a tie. The JV team also had one loss and two ties through the day's schedule.
In the first varsity game against Rockvale, CHS beat the Lady Rockets 3-0. Katie Cotten pushed the Lady Raiders ahead with two goals, with the first goal assisted by Marley Perry. Jayda Wright knocked in the third goal of the shutout unassisted.
CHS continued to hold opponents scoreless in its 11 a.m. game against Cascade. The Lady Raiders won 2-0, off goals from Maddy Jones and Perry. Jones was assisted by Perry, while Perry's goal was assisted by Anna Amado.
In the final varsity game against Franklin County, CHS jumped out to an early lead off goals from Jones and Reyna Flores. The Rebelettes battled back and the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Cotten had an assist on Jones's game-opening goal.
The JV team lost its opening game against Shelbyville 2-1, with the lone goal scored by Ellie Fann. After a 0-0 tie with Tullahoma, the JV team again tied in its final game against Franklin County by a score of 2-2. Fann scored both goals.
The CCMS Lady Raiders celebrated Eighth Grade Night on Monday with their eighth straight win in a 13-0 victory over Harris for a season sweep of the Eaglettes.
On Monday night, the CCCHS Red Raiders scored in the final five minutes to lift them over the Lincoln County Falcons 1-0, but the win was overshadowed by a scuffle between players in the final seconds of the game.
On Saturday, Coffee County’s Jacob Barlow was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State AA Wrestling Team in the 150 pound weight class.
This past Thursday, Coffee County’s Olivia Vinson was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Team for Class 4A Girls Basketball.
