The high school football season kicks off this week.

Meet The Tennessean's 2019 preseason All-Midstate football team.

Position: Quarterback

Why chosen: The Bucknell commitment is the leading returning passer in the Nashville area. He was 226-of-330 passing for 3,187 yards with 36 touchdowns and 11 interception in 2018.

Why chosen: James had 607 yards on 86 carries with eight touchdowns as a backup in 2018. His college offers include Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.

Why chosen: Moore rushed for a school single-season record 2,273 yards on 328 carries and scored 25 touchdowns to lead the Spartans to the Class 3A state semifinals in 2018.

Malik Bowen

Position: Wide receiver

Why chosen: The Duke commitment is the No. 24 prospect in the state for the Class of 2020, according to the 247Sports Composite. He had 27 catches for 663 yards and nine touchdowns in 2018.

Why chosen: Sutton is the No. 4 prospect for the Class of 2021. He has more than 20 offers that include Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Ensworth's Keshawn Lawrence is the  No. 2 college football prospect in Tennessee as ranked by the USA Today Network - Tennessee.

Dickson County's Tre'vonn Rybka  is the No. 13 college football prospect in Tennessee as ranked by the USA Today Network - Tennessee.

Why chosen: Rybka had 60 tackles including nine for loss. The three-star prospect's top four schools are Kentucky, Oklahoma, Oregon and Tennessee. He plans to announce his choice on Tuesday.

Why chosen: Grimes, the top prospect in the state, had 48 tackles with three for loss and an interception in 2018.

Why chosen: Miller was the Region 6-6A punter of the year in 2018 and is the No. 72-ranked punter in the country according to Kohl's for the Class of 2020.
