Lightning causes East Tennessee high school football games to be delayed, postponed

The football game between Sweetwater and Meigs County was postponed until 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

The game was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, but lightning and severe weather forced a delay and the postponement. 

Weather affected football games across the Knoxville area. The game between Oak Ridge and Hardin Valley at Blankenship Field was delayed at 7:50 p.m. as severe weather and lightning moved across the area. The game is scheduled to resume at 9:15.

TSSAA's weather policy calls for a 30 minute delay after every lightning strike within the area of the game. The decision to postpone and cancel games is up to the schools and school administrators.  

The game between Greenback and Loudon has been delayed twice due to lightning in the area.
