Franklin County's Jolie Bise prepares to serve the ball during a match Monday against Fayetteville City High School. The Rebelettes would go on to lose the match in five sets.
The Franklin County Rebelettes lost to the Fayetteville City High School Lady Tigers in five sets at home Monday for their fourth loss of the season.
The Rebelettes took a 2-1 lead at the halfway point of the match, but the Lady Tigers claimed the last two sets to keep them from getting their first win of the year.
Franklin County head volleyball coach Alveda Gaines said that the Lady Tigers are a formidable team, but her players did a good job of keeping the match close and giving themselves a chance to win.
“We have never taken (Fayetteville) to five sets, and we had them actually worried tonight,” Gaines said. “I can’t be mad at how they played because we did exceptionally well to win two sets.”
The Rebelettes built an early lead in the first set and held off a late push from the Lady Tigers to claim a 25-20 victory to start the match.
The second set featured six ties with the teams remaining close throughout until the Lady Tigers took a 25-22 win to tie the match at 1-1.
The third set would be another close one with the teams separated by four points or less for the entire period. The Rebelettes would ultimately pull away to claim a 25-21 win as they held a 2-1 lead overall.
The fourth set seemed to be one that would come down to the wire once again, but the Lady Tigers scored seven straight points at the end to win the set by a margin of 25-18 and tie the match at 2-2.
The fifth and final set in volleyball is played to 15 points instead of the regular 25 points.
The Rebelettes kept pace with the Lady Tigers throughout the final set and even took a 10-9 lead late in the period.
However, the Lady Tigers then went on a six-point run to clinch the set and the match in their favor.
With the loss, the Rebelettes moved to 0-4 on the season.
They will next play Thursday in a road contest against Friendship Christian School at Tullahoma High School. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
