Baylor dominated Chattanooga Christian to open the Red Raiders' home schedule with a 49-6 win Friday night.

Junior running back Elijah Howard led the cruise with three touchdowns.

"It was good for the home opener to walk away with a win," Baylor coach Phil Massey said. "We wanted to make sure we got a lot stuff done tonight. We got a lot of backups in that got some good playing time."

Massey said it was also important to remain healthy going into next week.

"We've got a big game next week going into our first region game (against Father Ryan)," he said. "(Tonight was) a good start; now we have to refocus."

Baylor scored fast on its opening possession, taking only four plays to find the end zone. Howard pounded the ball in from 3 yards out. The extra point put the Red Raiders up 7-0 with 10:48 to go in the first quarter.

Baylor forced a punt on the Chargers' opening possession and ate the clock on its ensuing march. Howard capped a 17-play drive with a 6-yard rushing score with 33 seconds remaining in the period.

Baylor added two more scores before halftime and led 28-8. Quarterback Neyland Jean connected with Jermiah Skipworth for a 36-yard touchdown pass, and Noah Martin scored with 44 seconds to go on a 6-yard run.

Howard tacked on his last score in the third quarter with a 13-yard run.

The Chargers (0-2) got on the scoreboard with 4:45 to go in the third. Traveon Scott scored from 36 yards out, but the extra point was blocked.

Baylor added two touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Carson Yates hauled in a 15-yard pass from Cooper Wick with 1:49 to go in the third. With 5:34 to go in the game, Dylan Crawford pounded the ball in from the 5.
