The East Robertson girls soccer team saw its season end with a 4-0 loss at York Institute in Tuesday’s Region 4-A soccer semifinals.

The Lady Indians outshot and out-possessed the Lady Dragons, according to coach Todd Evilcizer. However, East Robertson simply could not find the back of the net.

“Games like this happen at times, when shots hit the crossbar, shots go over, go wide, go straight to the keeper,” Evilcizer said. “They had a lot fewer opportunities, but they seized the opportunities.”

East Robertson finished with a 12-7 overall record, an improvement over their 8-9-1 finish in 2018. The Lady Indians also finished as the District 8-A runner-up to Merrol Hyde.

Leading scorer Izzy Lanius (24 goals, 7 assists), Savannah Mayes and Lisa Tiedt all graduate in the spring. That trio, along with junior Anna Hornberger, each served as team captains for East Robertson.

“As usual with small programs, the three seniors will be losses we will have to deal with,” Evilcizer said. “Each (player) meant a great deal to the program. I am thankful for their hard work and the memories.”

However, the Lady Indians return eight starters next season. That group includes Hornberger (14 goals, 4 assists), Peyton Lackey (18 goals, 15 assists) and goalkeeper Reese Swearingen (71 saves, three shutouts). Next year’s team will have just two seniors – Hornberger and defender Hallie Campbell.

“We’ll have to find girls to step up to fill those spots and configure our team where it works best,” Evilcizer said. “There is great potential for next year, it’s just finding the right kids in the right places will be the issue.”
