Donelson Christian Academy celebrated a rainy senior night Friday in Ken Redmond Stadium with a blowout of Grace Christian Academy Franklin 35-0 behind some stingy defense and running back Jacob Cook.

The Wildcats started on the second play of the game as Cook, the sophomore running back, scored on a 50-yard touchdown run to give Donelson Christian a 7-0 lead.

After the play, both teams struggled offensively due to the rainy and muddy conditions. However, the Wildcats’ defense played well all night. They chipped on the scoreboard with a fumble recovery in the end zone right before halftime to give Donelson Christian a 14-0 lead.

“It was difficult. The first half was not very clean,” said Donelson Christian coach Paul Wade. “Obviously with weather conditions like this, that’s going to happen, but we thought we were ready for it…I’m not sure that we were. Luckily at halftime, we had some good conversation. We made a couple of adjustments on defense, and we came out and executed what we wanted to do.

In the third, it was all Cook. He had two big runs for touchdowns. The first one was on the first the drive of the second half, when he went 63 yards untouched. The second was a 57-yard touchdown run where he also went untouched. The defense also got on the scoreboard again, as they scored on a 35-yard fumble recovery to give the Wildcats a 35-0 lead at the end of the third.

“We wanted to do our best,” Cook said. “We knew they were 0-8 team, but we wanted our seniors to have a great night tonight.”

Donelson Christian (6-3) will travel to face district rival Mt. Juliet Christian Academy (3-5) Friday at 7:30 p.m.

“This could determine quite a few things in the playoff situation…a local rivalry right down the road. They beat us for the first time last year, and our seniors want to make sure we do what we are supposed to do,” Wade said.
