Carter coach Scott Meadows resigned after one season as Carter's football coach, Carter athletic director Jewel Brock confirmed.

At 11 a.m., Carter's football Twitter account tweeted out Meadows had resigned. The tweet included a statement from Meadows.

"Thanks to the people that supported me, but this was a family decision to go home," the statement said.

Meadows was hired as Carter's football coach in December 2018 after he had retired as Pigeon Forge's football coach in 2016 because of heart problems. He had served as the school system athletics director for Sevier County before he was hired at Carter.

Carter finished 3-7 in 2019 and missed the Class 5A playoffs.

Brock said in an email that "Applications are now being accepted. Interviews will begin next week."

Meadows could not be immediately reached for comment.
