BGA's Antonio Stevens: Why I signed with Purdue

Antonio Stevens
For The Tennessean

The Tennessean has asked members of this year's Dandy Dozen to submit an essay in their own words why they signed with their school on Wednesday. Here is what BGA senior Antonio Stevens said about his signing with Purdue.

I choose Purdue because of the culture that has been created by the coaching staff as well as the players.

I took three visits to Purdue before I committed. I loved every single one of them.

The energy was so real. Not only when I was actually at the campus, but also off the campus.

The love that has been shown to me has been very consistent. I have a very strong bond with the coaching staff. And not only do I have a strong relationship with them, but my family does as well.

Everyone on the coaching staff wrote personal letters to me and my mom throughout the

recruiting process. We all talk on a daily basis.

Another factor in my decision of committing to Purdue was the academic part. I was absolutely blown away by the academic support system in place.

Getting a degree has always been a goal of mine and the opportunity to get a degree at such a prestigious institution was very attractive to me.

Location did not play a big factor in my decision. What mattered the most to me was how I fit into the program and if we shared the same values.

Through much prayer, talks with my family, and mentors in my life I felt at ease

and knew that Purdue University was the place for me.
