The Donelson Christian girls lost a close game at Ezell-Harding Christian, 44-38, last Friday night.
It was a tough night offensively for the Lady Wildcats who were plagued by inconsistency.
Despite holding a 13-10 lead at the end of the first period, the Lady Wildcats’ offense seemed to unravel in the second. Donelson Christian had 14 possessions in the period but turned the ball over nine times, managing to score only four points in the span.
The Lady Eagles took advantage, taking a six-point lead into halftime. Donelson Christian coach Karen Singer believes the Lady Eagles’ scoring may have made her team more anxious on the offensive end.
“When they’re in the zone, you just need to be more patient with it,” Singer said. “And they were just whipping the ball around, trying to do skip passes when there was no skip pass there. So that was the first half. It was an absolute awful performance from us, passing-wise.”
Despite the turnovers, the game was tied with a little over one minute remaining when Ezell-Harding’s Danielle Russell scored to give the Eagles a two-point lead.
The Lady Wildcats were unable to answer, and the game was put out of reach. Their missed shots and turnovers were simply too much to recover from.
“The bottom line was, we’re missing 2-foot shots,” Singer said. “I think if we were going to go look at the film, we missed about ten of them on the baseline in the fourth quarter alone. We’ve got to make some of those baskets to win the game.”
